A letter from S.W. Baker to the Reverend J. Eggleston, addressed at Tonga on the 20th December 1860. The letter asks several favours of the Rev. Eggleston and describes recent events among the missionaries and natives of Tonga.

Missionary and Premier of Tonga. Born in London, Baker arrived in Melbourne as a stowaway in 1852. In 1860 he was ordained as a Wesleyan minister and sent to Tonga, where he became chief adviser to King George Tupou, founder of the Tongan kingdom.
